[Description]
Kasuga Mountain Castle is located in Joetsu City, Niigata Province. It is famous for being the residence of Uesugi Kensin. It was a typical mountain castle which Uesugi Kensin’s father [Nagao Tamekage] and Kenson, and [Uesugi Kagekatsu] who inherited later built the castle wall. Honmaru is built on the top of the mountain, and vassals homes are located at the town under the castle.

The previous name of Uesugi Kensin was [Nagao Kagetora], Mr. Nagao was the guardian of [Mr. Uesugi]. When Mr. Hojo attacked Kanto, [Uesugi Norimasa] did not defend, instead he gave [Nagao Kagetora] the surname of Uesugi. Therefore, Nagao Kagetora changed his name to [Uesugi Kensin].

Kensin fulfilled Kanto management position well and fought fiecely with Mr. Hojo who aimed to attack Kanto. In addition, he also fought with Takeda Shingen. However, they did not have real result and after that it seems that [Takeda Shingen] won the battle.

After Kensin died, [Uesugi Kagekatsu] maintained his power as the five important persons of Hideyoshi. In addition, when Hideyoshi died, he was in the opposite position with Ieyasu at [the Battle of Uesugi].

Because Ishida Mitsunari also attacked Ieyasu, Ieyasu launched battle. However, it seems that it was difficult for Mitsunari to win the battle. Two parties finally attacked at the base of Mino. That was [the Battle of Sekigahara].

After Mr. Uesugi was asked to transfer to Aizu, the castle became abandoned. A new castle was built near Fukushima. A renovation and repair is going on on the current Kasuga Mountain Castle. In addition, it has been selected the No.32 of 100 famous castles in Japan.
