[Description]
Early in the Kamakura period, the grandson of Tairano Kiyomori “Tairano Yukimori” got adopted “Hojou Tokimasa” and entered Tanegashima named “Hojo Tokinobu” as the beginning of Tanegashima. The time of construction of Akatagi Castle is unknown, but it was called “Tanegashima” at the time of the 6th generation owner “Tokimitsu”.

In the third year of Keicho (1598), he was appointed as a chief retainer of the Satsuma clan, and he received 10,000 jewels for generations. Next, in the fourth year of Keicho (1599), it was returned from the knowledge to Tanegashima of the former, and then Tanegashima was defined throughout the Edo period. However, the owner was obliged to have a castle in Kagoshima (Tsurumaru castle).
