Homan Castle is a mountain castle built on the Homan mountain top in Dazaifu City Fukuoka Prefecture.
It is said that in the Tenmon year it was built by the Otomi family ‘s deputy “Takahashi Akitane”.

In the classification, “Otomo Sorin” separated at the time of the Otomo family owner and turned to Mori family. Although Mori family has been attacking up to Kyushu, remnants of Niko attacked 3rd district and withdrew the army from Kyushu. They were isolated and fell again to Otomo.

However, the Takahashi family’s stance was stripped off, and instead, “Takahashi Shinko (Takahashi Shoun)”, a child of Yoshihiro Akimasa, succeeded Takahashi. Shoun sent the eldest son “Muneshige” to the Tachibana family and adopted the second son “Munemasu” to the Takahashi family.
Shimazu Yoshihisa and Yoshihiro brothers come northward with the aim of unification of Kyushu Tenshou 14 (1586), Tachibana Muneshige went to “Tachibana mountain castle”, Munemasa went to “Homan Castle”, the Shoun to the “Iwaya castle” respectively.

In the forefront of Iwaya Castle, all the members of the castle owner “Shoun” were honored and then “Houman Castle” surrendered. Houman castle owner “Takahashi Munemasu” was sent to Shimazu homeland after being cheated and captured by the attack army general “Shimazu Tadashi.” (It is released later.)
Thanks to Shoun earning time in Iwaya Castle by holding the castle, Tachibana mountain castle of Muneshige could withstand the Shimazu attack easily and was able to get support from Toyotomi Hideyoshi’s Kyushu Conquest Army.

In the same year, Shimazu Yoshihisa and Yoshihiro Brothers were driven to Satsuma • Ousaka, and finally fell at Hideyoshi’s army gate. It seems that Homan became an abandoned castle when casting down due to the Shimazu attack. Currently, there are only stone walls and stone steps left behind as its remains.
