[Description]
Makishima Castle is a water castle located in Makishima Town, Uji City, Kyoto.
It is said that a big swamp was in this area and the castle was on the island of the swamp during Sengoku Era.

The castle built year is unknown, but it was ruled by [Makishima Akimatsu] who was the casle owner. Tensho 1 year (1573), Ashikaga Yoshiaki betrayed Oda Nobunaga and he depended on Makishima Akimatsu and stayed in the castle.

However, it was defeated by Nobunaga. In order to save Yoshiaki’s life, he escaped to Wakae Castle in Kawachi Country and Muromachi Shogun ended here. After that, [Ban Naomasa] [Ido Yoshihiro] were appointed as castle owner. Bunroku 1 year (1592), when Toyotomi Hideyoshi built Fushimi Castle, Makishima Castle was abandoned as it lost military value.

A park is being built on the current Makishima Castle ruins, and the castle remainings have almost nothing left.
