[Description]
Yo-gaiyama Castle is a yamajiro, a castle built on mountain, located in Kofu, Yamanashi
prefecture. It is built to protect Tsutsujigasaki Castle, now also known as the ruins of
Takeda Palace. When Masanari Fukushima, a samurai from the Imagawa clan invaded Kai, today’s Yamanashi prefecture, Nobutora Takeda let his wife, Mrs. Oi, escaped and hid in this castle, and defeated Fukushima. The rumor has it that Mrs. Oi gave birth to a son, who will be known as Shingen while she was at this castle under the war.

After a fall of the Takeda clan, Ieyasu Tokugawa once put this area under his control. As
one daimyo from the Toyotomi clan rules this castle, Mitsuyasu Kato took the lead on
renovating the castle. The stone fences in Anou-zumi style still remains as an evidence of the renovation to this day. After the battle of Sekigahara in 1600, the Tokugawa clan won back the Kai area around Yogaiyama Castle, and later abandoned the castle due to the relocation of the main city to Kofu.
