[Description]
Kuragano Castle is a castle located in Takasaki City, Gunma Prefecture. It was close to the river called Tone River, and it also occupied important areas close to Nakasen-do highway.

The castle lords had historically being from 「Kuragano clan」 since the Kamakura period. During the Sengoku period (period of warring states), it was placed under 「Uesugi Norimasa」 who was the Kanto Supervisor (shogunal deputy of Kanto region) as an important base of Wes Ueno, but it was occasionally attacked by 「Shingen Takeda」 and 「Ujiyasu Hojo」, and underwent hard struggles.

After that, the Kuragano clan had to follow destiny as it’s befitting as its small feudal lord. 「Uesugi Norimasa」, the Kanto Supervisor (Shogunal deputy of the Kanto region) failed to maintain the management of the Kanto region and then when he went under 「Uesugi Kenshin (Nagao Kagetora)」, the Kuragano clan fell into the Takeda clan.
Then, when the Takeda clan was defeated by Nobunaga Oda, it got passed down to the Kanto area officer of the Oda family, Takigawa Kazumasu, and then it fell down to the Hojo clan when Nobunaga Oda was killed by Mitsuhide Akechi.

In the 18th Year of Tenshou Era (1590), when the conquest of Hojo by Hideyoshi Toyotomi began, the Kuragano clan shared the fate of the Hojo family, and the Kuragano Castle surrendered and capitulated.
As a result, the Kuragano clan was ruined, and Kuragano Castle was abandoned. At present, a stone monument stands on the site of the castle.
