[Explanation]
Shakujii Castle (Shakujii jo) is a castle located in Shakujii period at Nerima ward, Tokyo metropolitan area. Toshima was a residence owner until the fall of Toshima, a force led by the Shakujii river basin from the Heian period to the Muromachi era, until it collapsed due to the rebeliion of Nagao.

Although the age of the castle is not certain, it is believed that Mr. Toshima who has expanded its influence in this area built a castle as one of the castle in the late Kamakura period. In the late Muromachi period, Mr. Toyoshima who was on Ashikaga’s side as a result of Uesugi Zenshuu’s revolt celebrates its rebirth by Toshima who was on the side of Ashikaga Mochiuji, but eventually it deepens the confrontation with Ota of Ougiya Uesugi on the side of the emerging force and attacks Ota Doukan at “Nagao Kageharu’s revolt” and it was fallen.

In this battle, the party leader “Toshima Yasutsune” and his brother Yasuaki confronted “Ota Doukan” based on Shakujii Castle and Hiratsuka Castle (Musashi Country Toyoshima County “Kita Ward Tokyo” aka Toshima Castle), but Hiratsuka castle took the attack and Yasuaki crushed himself in a rescue (Ekoda) when he was attacked and died in the battle, Yasutsune dropped into Shakujii castle.

After that, “Doukan” advanced soldiers to Shakujii Castle to attack the castle, Yasutsune passed through Hiratsuka Castle and then dropped to the Kozukue Castle. 9th year of Bunmei (1477), Finally Shakujii castle fell and became abandoned castle. In the next Bunmei 10th year (1478), the Kazukue castle also dropped, finally Toshima fell down.

Currently it is maintained as Shakujii Park, and there are ruins and shrines related to Ota Doukan which destroyed Toshima and Toshima in the neighborhood. There is a legend that Toshima’s princess, Teruhime threw herself at the time of falling castle of Shakujii castle in the park “Sanpoujike Temple”, a monument reminiscent of this is built.
