[Description]
Kunimine Castle is a mountain castle located in Kanra Town, Gunma Province.
The castle built year is unknown, but it is said that it was built by Mr. Obata who ruled this area in Enou 2 year (1240).

During the South and North Dynasties, it belonged to the south. Tenmon 15 year (1546), Uesugi Norimasa was greatly defeated by Hojo Ujiyasu at Kawagoe Battle, the master at that time [Obata Norishige] followed Ujiyasu.

After that, when Takeda Shingen started attacking Ueshu, it belonged to Mr. Takeda. At that time, [Nagano Narimasa] sent Obata Norishige to Ueshu, and appointed [Obata Shigesada] as the castle owner.

Eiroku 4 year (1561), when Shingen took Kunimine Castle, Obata Norishige•Nobusada returned to be the castle owner. After that, Nobusada became the important vassal of Mr. Takeda. He attacked Minowa Castle and won a few military awards.

After that, Nobusada also made military contribution at both [the Battle of Mikatagahara] and [the Battle of Nagashino]. Tensho 10 year (1582), [Takeda Katsuyori] was destroyed by [Oda Nobunaga] and Mr. Obata was surrendered to Nobunaga and followed Nobunaga’s important vassal [Takigawa Kazumasu]. However, at the same year when Nobunaga was attacked by Akechi Mitsuhide at [Honno Temple Chaos], [Hojo Ujinao] served.

Toyotomi Hideyoshi who took over Nobunaga after he died launched Odawara Battle in Tensho 18 year (1590). Nobusada hid in Tahara Castle and [Obata Nobuhide] left in Kunimine Castle. However, Odawara Castle fell down soon, and Kunimine Castle was also destroyed by Maeda Toshiie and Fujida Nobuyoshi’s army.

After that Kunimine Castle became abandoned. Honmaru, Mr. Obata’s stone monument in the mountain top, and the pavilion site in the mountain foot are still left at the current Kunimine Castle ruins.
