[Description]
Arai Castle is a cliff castle located in Miura Island, Miura City, Kanagawa Province.
The castle built year is unknown, but it is said that the castle was built by [Sahara Moritoki] in the end of Kamakura Period.

In the beginning of Sengoku Period, [Miura Tokitaka] did not have son, he adopted [Yoshiatsu] from Mr. Uesugi. However, at that time, [Tokitaka]’s son [Takaoshi] was born. Therefore, Yoshiatsu was returned to Mr. Uesugi.

Meio 3 year (1594), Yoshiatsu received reinforcement from Mr. Oumori, and destroyed [Tokitaka] [Takaoshi] and became the head of Mr. Miura. Eisho 9 year (1512), Hojo Soun started forwarding to the East and Mr. Miura’s residence was fallen down.

In addition, Hojo chased to the last defensive castle of Mr. Miura [Arai Castle]. Yoshiatsu was enclosed in the castle for 3 years, and finally in Eisho 13 year (1516), Arai Castle fell down and Mr. Miura was destroyed.

After that, it became the residence of Mr. Hojo, [Ujitsuna] [Ujiyasu] was the castle owner. When Odawara Castle was defeated and opened at the Battle of Hojo broke out by Toyotomi Hideyoshi, Arai Castle was abandoned. Nowadays, [Miura Yoshiatsu]’s grave is in the current castle ruins.
